GAGE PARK’S ATHLETIC DEPARTMENT
Gage Park High School support student participation in athletics. Participation in athletics is a privilege and students involved in extra-curricular sports activities are expected to maintain a higher standard of academic achievement and behavior than that of the general student body. Therefore, in order to participate in athletics, students shall maintain satisfactory progress toward meeting the academic requirements and regulations of the Chicago Public School. PURPOSE The GPHS Department of Athletics is committed to enriching campus life through a program of interscholastic athletics and to promoting the development of qualities in the student-athlete that will serve the participating individual and the community. To instill in the student a sense of responsibility by demanding consistently high standards of behavior and making the student aware and respectful of the needs of others;

To engender commitment in the student by directing him/her to an acceptance of the goals of the team and an appreciation of the needs of his/her teammates, coaches, opponents, and officials;

To nurture unselfishness in the student by requiring that his her actions on and off the playing field be consistent with the goals of the team as a whole and not be directed towards individual honors;

To generate in the student-athlete a willingness to sacrifice his/her time and energy towards the fulfillment of shared goals;

To further a sense of personal discipline on the part of the student athlete by demanding nonparticipation from activities that limit his/her athletic, academic, and personal potential. ELIGIBILITY To be eligible to participate in interscholastic participation, a student at Granada High School must meet all of the following criteria: -
Have a cumulative G.P.A. of 2.0 or higher in the preceding academic quarter; -
Have a current IHSA physical form on file; -
Complete the athletic registration process. -
Have parent consent A student must meet the above criteria or they will not be allowed to participate in any practices, scrimmages, or contests. A student who fails to satisfy criteria #1 above is immediately academically ineligible for participation in contests or scrimmages. PROBATION If a student has a grade point average below 2.0, he or she will be on probation status and will have to follow up with the Athletic Director every quarter.
BEHAVIOR REGULATIONS -
Possession or use of alcohol and/or illegal drugs at school or school activities as determined by a school official, shall result in immediate dismissal from the team and ineligibility for participation in other teams/activities for the remainder of the sport season.

Suspension from school results in simultaneous suspension from practice or contests.

Insubordination to any school personnel may result in disciplinary action or dismissal from the team as determined by the Principal or Athletic Director.

Attendance in all classes on the day of a contest or practice is required in order to be eligible to participate. Exceptions may be granted at the discretion of the Athletic Director.

Travel to and from all extra-curricular activities must be on transportation authorized by the school. Students shall not transport other students to or from activities.

Return of all issued equipment/materials and payment for lost equipment/materials is the responsibility of the student and parent. The student shall not participate in another sport until equipment is returned or payment is made.

Additional rules developed and distributed in writing by the coach relating to attendance and punctuality at practice, awards, dress, and behavior/conduct must be followed. Failure to follow these rules may result in suspension or dismissal from the team.
