Students Participate in Community Tour that Highlights Efforts to Transform Neighborhood

The campaign seeks to acquire, rehab and reoccupy 100 vacant units within a 3-square mile target area. They have focused their efforts in and around the Chicago Lawn Micro Market Recovery Program (MMRP) area.  Over the past three years their work has been responsible for reducing vacant properties in the MMRP from 80 units to 25.  To date, SWOP has raised over $11 million for the Reclaiming Southwest Chicago initiative.

Students were able to meet developers, contractors and learned about the community organizing that has led to this campaign. We thank Mr. Harry Meyer, Housing Coordinator at SWOP, for helping organize the tour and Marquette Bank for providing transportation for students.
